In our beginner BJJ classes, you’ll get hands-on experience with the core techniques that form the foundation of your training. You’ll learn how to control positions, escape safely, apply submissions, and execute takedowns with confidence. Everything is taught step by step, so you can build skills and techniques at your own pace.

Fundamental Positions

Learn the essential stances and guard positions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, including closed guard, half guard, and mount. Mastering these positions is crucial for controlling opponents and executing effective techniques.

Escapes and Defenses

Develop the skills to escape from dominant positions like side control and mount while learning defensive strategies. Proper technique and leverage will help you regain control and stay safe in sparring.

Basic Submissions

Takedowns & Sweeps

Movement and Transitions

Improve your ability to flow between positions smoothly while maintaining control. Effective movement and transitions are key to setting up attacks, defending against opponents, and developing a strong BJJ game.

Self-Defense Applications

Apply Jiu-Jitsu techniques to real-life self-defense situations, learning how to neutralize threats without relying on size or strength. Gain confidence in protecting yourself using effective escapes, submissions, and control techniques.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and self-defense system focused on ground fighting, submissions, and positional control. It emphasizes technique, leverage, and strategy, allowing smaller individuals to defend themselves against larger opponents.

Yes, BJJ is safe for beginners when taught correctly. Classes are structured to introduce techniques gradually, and instructors emphasize controlled training. Safety measures, such as tapping out before injury and learning proper falling techniques, help minimize risks.

You don’t need to be in peak physical condition to start BJJ. The sport itself will help you improve your strength, flexibility, and endurance over time. Classes are designed to accommodate all fitness levels, and you’ll progress at your own pace. As you train, your conditioning will naturally improve through drills, sparring, and technique practice.

Absolutely! We offer a free trial class so you can experience our training environment before making a decision. This allows you to meet our instructors, try basic techniques, and get a feel for the class structure

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothing like a rash guard and shorts or sweatpants without zippers. If you continue training, you’ll need a BJJ gi (uniform), which is essential for learning grips and traditional techniques. If you don’t have a gi yet, we can provide guidance on where to get one.

Progress in BJJ depends on consistency and effort. Most beginners start feeling more comfortable after a few weeks of training. Within a few months, you’ll see noticeable improvements in technique, endurance, and confidence.

While any physical activity carries some risk, BJJ is designed to be a safe and controlled sport. Proper training focuses on technique rather than brute force, and instructors ensure that students practice safely. Learning how to tap out early and communicate with training partners helps prevent injuries.
